News: Send Santa to Italy

Hey I'm back. Why am I posting again early? Well just wanted to post some news.

For a while, with some ups and downs, I've been trying to fansub Winx Club with another person. Problem? Lots of freely available fansubbers people would just love to subtitle any number of unsubbed shojo animes but there's not really any widespread interest for this show in the fansubbing community. To give you the short version of thing-

1. most fansubbers are pretty hardcore anime fans.
2. Anime fans, particularly hardcore anime fans, hate 4Kids.
3. People who hate a company don't usually watch their shows or care to engage in any activities which could help that company. (One Piece recently had ratings below 1.0)
4. Anime fans have little interest in a butchered version of Magical Doremi or Tokyo Mew Mew, and will have less interest in a "fake anime" they think 4Kids made by themselves. (actually it's just an Italian show modeled after anime, sort of like how Teen Titans is except that that show actually is American.)

What'd I do? Well I wrote up a new editorial (note- title should be, "Why Fansubbing Groups should consider fansubbing Winx Club", currently misnamed but won't be soon)
directed specifically towards fansubbers out there. So if there are any fansubbers out there please feel free to read it, or if you know any feel free to get in touch with them. We still need a subber (not translator, Sakura's got that covered) and encoder who can encode into .avi or especially .mkv. Any groups looking for a new project who are interested would be especially perfect too.

Also I've talked to a few people about the Winx project. "I trust you'll fansub it soon enough and I'll be waiting patiently for the subs!" I've heard that a few times. While I appreciate the support and enthusiasm the best thing to do if you want to see it subbed isn't just to wait for it to be fansubbed but to order yourself some Italian dual-language (U.K. dub, not the English one) dvd's which you can read about here.

Why's that? Well it'd really help if there was more demand out there for the original version or some kind of uncut English dub and if more people watch it and decide they like it they'll spread the word and also drum up interest. Christmas is just around the corner anyway so the "I don't have the money" shouldn't be an excuse and this would make a great gift if you're still trying to pick out stuff. Fansubbers take note too, this would be a good way to look at the series and preview it and show it to more people. The U.K. dub is excellent so don't worry that it might be like DBZ or One Piece. You can check out a few clips of the show to whet your appetite here. Just remember (particularly non-fansubbers) that your dvd machine/computer/(and my personal favorite)XBox will have to be modified/coded a bit to play foreign dvd's correctly but if you can get that down it shouldn't be a problem.

And on a completely different note... any liveaction show fansubbers interested in subbing this particular show?
