The theme of this website is competition anime because I love how those series affect me. I get pulled in by the story and the bishonen. Then the games reel me in the rest of the way. When I am in the middle of such series, I have many sleepless nights trying to watch as much as I can at once. When I watched Slam Dunk, I found myself yelling for Ryota to pass to Rukawa. I screamed for every score. I almost cried when Shohoku lost one of their games. When I watched Initial D, even though I knew that Takumi was the main character and therefore could not lose, I still had my face really close to my computer/tv screen yelling for him to win. I am finishing up Hajime no Ippo. I only have the OVA to go. I was so into Ippo that I screamed during one of his fights. While watching Prince of Tennis, Tezuka's game against the other captain put me through the ringer. And then there was Grappler Baki. All I can say about Baki is, "Damn, the giant ape ate his own eye!"

Wai~!

I lent Young my white gloves from my Edward costume for his Edward costume that he wore to Acen. During the con, his costume ruined them. He felt bad, so he bought me a new pair. Now, Young is putting the Flame Alchemist symbol on the new gloves for me. Wai~! Every cosplay thing Young does is absolutely flawless! Ureshi~! Still, if I see the official gloves at Fanime, I'm so buying them. At Acen they were $35. I've been seeing them for $50 online.

Roy costume update: I bought a pair of black military boots from the Army Navy Surplus store on Sunday. They are so perfect. They are the correct height too. ^_^ They look so badass with my pants. Roy's boots are meant to have gray on the bottom, but I don't want to ruin my boots so I'm opting out of doing that. Maybe if I put masking tape on them and paint that...
I ripped off all the trim on the shirt, pants and skirt thing and am replacing it with better fabric trim. The gray is a little darker than my original trim, but I think it's supposed to be anyway. All that's left after that is to wash the Knox gelatin out of my Miroku wig and restyle it to look like Roy's hair and I'll be all done. ^_^ I'm not sure if I will be bringing my FMA watch with me to Fanime. It's so precious. *hunches over Gollum-style* I don't want to lose the precious, so I think I will leave it at home in its box. I know that one of the reasons I bought that watch was for cosplay, but oh well. I would rather have a cosplay version that I can easily replace.

Fanboy Smackdown!

The following is an excerpt from an actual email sent to FUNi by... well... a moron. The name, anime club, and school have been omitted so that the moron may save face. The email was forwarded to me by the PR guy, Jeff since the guy is in an anime club and I can keep it in mind when I advertise Operation Anime.

"I wanted to pass on to someone there that myself and a lot of my friends
at ********** are extremely excited that Funimation has picked up the
Full Metal Alchemist series.
On a related note, I was extremely disappointed in the trailers
published at the official website for FMA (www.fullmetalalchemist.com).
Having kept up with the fan subs of the show, I was very surprised that
the trailer dubbing used the phrase "equivalent exchange" instead of
"equivalent trade." I realize that it's at the level of nit-picking, but
I'm hoping that the trailer was more of a rough translation to get
something out. I know that the series has spread like wildfire around
******* and there are a lot of people looking forward to actually getting a
chance to see it on television and own it on DVD, and we would be sorely
disappointed if the translation job was sub-par."

Jerk.

I know he was trying to be polite, but he just comes off as an asshole. Now, FUNi gets these emails all the time. A fanboy wants to make a point to the company - to let the people there in on something they obviously did not know. What makes this email so great is that this "all-knowing, nit-picky" fanboy is WRONG. It is not "equivalent trade." It IS "equivalent exchange." I looked up the phrase "douka koukan" in my Japanese dictionary and it is indeed exchange. So, ha! You are wrong, fanboy! Yes, yes. FUNi will depend more on the "fan sub" translation than the paid professional translator. I'm sure the fan sub is way more accurate and absolutely without error. I'm sorry, but you and your club will just have to deal with our more correct, "sub-par" translation.

In my reply to Jeff I told him about the fanboy's error. I also told Jeff that if you want to get really "nit-picky" "Full Metal" is supposed to be only one word. Fanboy down! Fanboy down! Jeff was very happy and wanted to reply to the guy. I'm not sure if he ever did.

In other news, Fanime is quickly approaching. My flight leaves at 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning, though so that means I have to be at Christi's apartment at 7 a.m. >_< I'm still excited, though. This is my first con outside of Texas. I finally made it! It's gonna be so cool. I get to be in the FUNi industry panel. I get into the dealer room early! Rock! If anyone is going to Fanime, come visit me at the FUNi table. If not, I'll see you at Akon. ^_^

What's Been Happening Lately

I haven't posted in a while and that's because I've been busy at work. This week is Acen and as you can see from the date and time of this post, I am not there. T_T As always, Lance stresses on the day before leaving for a con. So much drama. Because of this, I decided to stay late and help him prepare. Lance was very talkative until I left so I could tell he was relieving a lot of that stress. He was being silly Lance which is a clue that he is really stressed out.

So, two days ago, in preparation for Acen, I attached Fullmetal Alchemist buttons to these little info sheets. Yesterday, I made probably around 200 buttons and attached those to more little info sheets. Altogether, Lance took around 440 buttons with him to give out at the FUNi industry panel. Yes, for those of you not in the know, the Fullmetal Alchemist PS2 game was announced at E3 and along with it came the announcement of who had rights to the anime. Lance is making the official announcement at Acen on Saturday. All in all, I think the anime public is taking the announcement well and for every 15-year-old that bitches in a forum there is one sound of reason to smack that bitch up. It felt nice reading those posts.

http://www.fullmetalalchemist.com <-- Go watch the trailers. Chris Sabat does the voiceover!

It's official. I'm going to Fanime. I have a plane ticket. However, Lance is not going, or so he said last night at midnight. He might change his mind when he remembers that he has two industry panels. I can just see it now...

Lance: I'm not going to Fanime.
Sophie: What about your two panels?
Lance: ....Crap.

I was on AIM talking to Christi around 1 am and she told me that all of a sudden Lance said he wasn't going to Fanime since he would be too busy around that time. It's a shocker, I know. Lance has never not gone to a FUNi con. It will just be Christi, Young, and me. It's gonna be kind of weird without Lance. Still though, it's gonna rock! ^_^ Christi said she would take me to Kinokunia! Plus, we are bringing a rather large 800 pound item along with us to be displayed at the FUNi booth. All I will say about it is, "Kitties inside." Also, I think the Fruits Basket hats that Lance designed will be in by then and we'll get to sell them to all the fangirls. Fanime is only two weeks away. I can't wait. XD

For those (all two of you) that read the blog, but don't go to the AnimeUTA website, there is NO MEETING this Saturday, the 15th. Please visit the AnimeUTA website for more information.

Justin Strikes....Again!

I was standing in the break room waiting to get a Dr. Pepper out of the machine, when a hand covered my eyes. Then the other hand started messing with my hair. I finally guessed that it was Justin and he let me go. I'd say I was a stress relief for him. In two or three weeks, Justin has to be done with Yu Yu so he's been really stressed lately. Every time I saw him over the past couple of days, he looked so ragged. I thought he was mad at me or something. I was so worried about him. I'm glad he feels better. ^_^

I put my FMA keychain figures on my Initial D hachi roku cell phone stand. Winry is standing next to the engine since I figured she would be happiest there. Ed and Roy are standing in front of the hachi roku. Al is sitting on top of the hachi roku. I wrote "Hagaren" on a piece of paper and taped it over the D in Initial D, so now it says "Initial Hagaren." If I had a digital camera, I would take a picture of it.

Con Update: I may not be going to Acen, but I do get to be at the unveiling of our big promotion item. It's so big that we can't ship it to Acen in time, so we have to wait until Fanime. Rock! Turns out Fanime is really strapped for panels, so Lance, Christi, and are all doing some. My panel is going to be on Operation Anime and how to start and run an anime club. So, yeah, I'll be bullshitting for most of that. :P No, seriously, I'm sure I'll have something ready, like a demo of the website or at least printouts of all the pages. I've already written a club startup guide for the Operation Anime site so I can just paraphrase that while I'm talking. I think I'll also print out copies of the guide for people to take home. Sweet, I'm like all ready 70% done and I haven't even started preparing for it yet. :P

Tonight I'm going to go see Van Hellsing and it will be good.

Mmmmmmm...Bishounen

Today in the marketing department, Diane got some Yu Yu action figures signed by Justin and the dude that does the voice of Kurama. She wanted them for a promotion that she is thinking of doing on the Yu Yu website. This got us talking about Yu Yu and then the Yu Yu website and then finally Kurama. Then somehow we got onto the subject of how Kurama was good enough to eat and then we came up with chocolate Kurama. So, instead of a chocolate bunny it would be a chocolate fox boy. There's also chocolate Hiei with green frosting and white chocolate Kuwabara. I think Yusuke was regular chocolate. It's Easter, otaku-style!

Kyle Hebert was talking to Jeff while we were talking about Yu Yu. After getting DVDs from Jeff he joined Diane, Christi, and me. After hearing our chocolate Kurama conversation, Kyle announced that we had been working too hard. Hmm... I guess entering survey data all day is a bit straining on the eyes.

At least we weren't talking about poo and diarreaha this time (song included, cha cha cha). Yes, the maturity level is quite low sometimes. ^^;

Oh, Kyle is auditioning for Spiral today. Bevins says he's probably going to get cast as Eyes Rutherford (that's the pretty British one). All you Kyle fans out there, wish him luck. ^_^

This does, however, remind me that I have not been called back for anything Spiral or otherwise related. I was doing so well in forgetting about that too. Damn.

Not Going

Problem 1: It's Young's birthday during Acen. Christi doesn't want to leave Young alone on his birthday. Solution 1: Bring Young to Acen for his birthday. Problem 2: Only three people are approved to go for FUNi to Acen. Those three people are Lance, Christi, and me. Solution 2: I give up my spot so Young can go.

Christi was going to pay for Young's ticket, but Young wouldn't let her since they are saving money. Christi asked me if I wouldn't mind giving up my Acen spot so that Young could go in my place. She didn't want to ask me this of course. She really wants me to go. I couldn't say no, I'm a selfish bastard and really want to go to Acen because I really want to be there when we announce what we are announcing. I had to say, "Of course, he can take my place. Perhaps I can even pay my own way there." Turns out, it is way too complicated for four people to go, so I'm skipping..... out...... on Acen. T_T

I gave up my spot to help someone else, so at least there is that. Besides, I'm going to a lot of other cons during the summer. I have Otakon and Expo to look forward to. Plus, there's Fanime two weeks after Acen and there's a huge Japanese book store there and that taco place I have heard so much about.

Christi said she felt really bad about giving my spot to Young, but I kept telling her it was ok. I guess it is. It's just one con. It's just Acen. The title Lance is announcing, yes, is a really big title. Yes, I'll miss the mixed looks of surprise, horror, dismay, and elation. Yes, we are getting a really big item to go on the con tour and Acen is the first leg of its trip so I'll miss the reaction to that too. However, I get to go to the rest of the cons so it's not so bad. Yes, I'm disappointed but overall I'm okay and glad that I could help Christi and Young. ^_^

So, to the one that might still read my blog and has called me selfish, take that!! I gave up going to a convention for free so that someone else could go! Take that you hateful jerk! Call me selfish? I showed you! *RASPBERRY*

Lots of Stuff is Happening...

So, I had to go to Home Video today to weigh five boxes of DVD. Home Video is the only place with a scale. Asl I was walking back to Marketing to make UPS shipping labels for them, Lance followed me from Home Video. He grabbed the daily Operation Anime mail (large envelopes full of filled out surveys) and instead of helping me with my combursome stack of boxes, he placed the stack of envelopes on top of the boxes. At least he got the door for me. ^^; It was all in fun though. I'm sure if I was really in trouble, Lance would help me.

The other day, Lance announced that FUNi is hiring a Brand Manager. This person would pretty much have to be another Lance. He/she would have to have experience in marketing and have at least a BBA, but an MBA is more preferable. So far, we've had nothing but fanboy resumes or people that look promising but have just graduated college and have no experience. There is a thread about it on Anime News Network and a post about it on Animeondvd.com.

Lance has been pressing me to get my degree in business or marketing. I think I'll take that as a huge hint and change my major to marketing and keep my minor as business.

I watched the trailer for the anime that Lance will be announcing at Acen, today. It was so kickass. Chris Sabat did the voice over. After watching the trailer, Lance, Christi, and I listened to Chris' outtakes. The line is supposed to read "...coming soon to Cartoon Network." Chris' outtakes came out "...coming to 7/11," "...coming to Wal Mart," "...your mother and I love you," "...I love you." There were also some alternate readings to "coming soon to Cartoon Network" each with their own outtakes. "...available soon," "...available now," "...unavailable," "...never available." I believe Lance will post the trailer after or during Acen on the Animeondvd.com forum. God willing, I will be at Acen for the announcement. I'm so excited. ^_^
