| A Rebutal to Critics |
|
For a long time people had little to go on to criticize me. Then, that all changed. Thanks to being wrong about someone being someone from Funimation that they weren't that gave fresh amunition to try and use that as the sole thing to judge me solely on.
Someone who might choose to judge me solely on one issue probably isn't going to make any mention of my interview with an animator from Toei who gives a damning critique of Funimation's behavior. And they're probably not going mention me interviewing one of Funimation's VA's or make reference to the fact that I'm the one who discovered that Funimation had mistranslated a full 61.5% of DBZ and I also proved it as well. Why? Well, those things do reflect positively on me and make me look smart and skilled. When someone is trying to create an entirely negative portrait of someone they'll leave out anything that makes one look good and try to focus on one or a small number of core issues to reflect entirely negatively upon someone. Unfortunately, in some instances the thing people use to attack someone is just too great to counter. Take Dan Rather for instance. Poor poor Dan Rather. Because of one mistake over documents allegedly about Bush all of his critics and anyone who dislikes him or wants to attack him can use that as the sole basis of attacking him. He's done a lot of good work over the years so it's a shame it has to be that way. Still, there is one way Dan Rather could counter the critics- he would have to get some documents proven true about scandals in the Bush administration. Then, because people used him being wrong about documents as a basis for being attacked so much, they'd have to give just as much positive credit for right documents. Sounds simple right? As for me, all I need to do is find at least one person from Funimation posting anonymously online then prove that they've done so. I imagine it'd be pretty difficult to do and certainly impressive since it hasn't been done before. So I'll go for 4. Long ago in the distant land of Planet Namek, Jon Allen talked about making a website with Chris Sabat called "eatmoreokra.com" in his farewell PN editorial. Nothing really came of it except for a single page with a graphic of Chris Sabat eating the occasional flying okra. However, I decided to punch in "eatmoreokra" into a few search engines and see what turned up. Loo and behold Sabat actually did get a website, a webjournal at eatmoreokra.blogspot.com. On it (it only got about 2000 hits before he closed it) he did several news updates, some in regards to Funimation. There wasn't too much of interest there aside from a news update about his fiancee Carly Hunter and Gen Fukunaga going on a business trip to Canada and smoking cigars. Most interesting though was the story about how him and his fiancee got drunk on champagne at dinner with a 4Kids director who'd worked on YGO while they perspectively "spilled their company's woes" to one another. After that they were drunk so they slept at the 4Kids Director's penthouse suite. (looking back on an archived version of it, it was actually a fan convention in Australia and not New York) Ah, but the tale of eatmoreokra gets better. This same person also responded to a post here. You can get an idea of the original topic here and also see that "eatmoreokra" or Chris Sabat also made a response. Although the post unfortunately disappeared (and I'm kicking myself for not having saved it- this is all I could find archived on the net a while ago) I'm glad I remember what he wrote. He basically wrote, "Why's everybody complaining about Funimation? Personally, I think that they are a GREAT company and are doing a wonderful job with the show. Now I know about the toys issue but that's not really their fault so much. As for all those people complaining about the translations, trust me, I've seen the original translations and Japanese is pretty much impossible to translate into English! If you see good-looking translations on fansubs then they are LYING to you. You have to study it for several years to really understand it and even then it's almost impossible to translate it into English or in a form that's understandable! Anyway, if anyone has any questions about Funimation you're more than welcome to ask me, etc. etc." Heh heh. Lots of interesting stuff, particularly about the translations. And all because I found out that FUNimation's DBZ director Christopher Robin Sabat used the online name "eatmoreokra." And for the record he also used eatmoreokra anonymously for a while such as when he brought up in a **topic** on IGN if Laura Bailey was the same VA from Blue Gender which, as director of the series I'm sure he just happened to forget and it's not like he wanted to try and steer any conversations in that direction. He did later use it openly on his journal but, I have the feeling he wasn't counting on anyone to make the connection to that name and tracking it down like I did he was probably just being a bit careless. I guess he really does like naming things after okra though, considering that his new company is called Okatron 5000. Well that's one down, so why don't we try for two? This next one was fairly easy. Long ago the popular website Dbzsc.com became best buddies with Byron Watson, who is the brother of DBZ Producer Barry Watson. Through this friendship they eventually gained the aim names of at least two DBZ Va's (Chris Sabat and Laura Bailey) then posted a series of interviews you can read here. http://dbzsc.com/?dbzsc=interviews After the Sabat interview I guess they were really excited and, well, perhaps got a little bit too carried away. Here's what they said: "OK, officially I'm now on a VA-speaking spree. TWO VA's IN LESS THAN 3... well.... 4 HOURS! Very interesting stuff was discussed here, like the fact that basically NO ONE in Funimation likes the DBGT rap, and we're stuck with it thanks to Bruce Faulconer. Also, for those of you that thought DBAF was real, there isn't any more proof I can show you to prove that it's FAKE. The conversation went nicely, and Chris is just the coolest. Thanks a lot to Byron Watson AGAIN for communicating me with him. Next time, I'll try to accomplish the seemingly almost impossible task... A chat with Sean Schemmel (Goku)! Don't miss the next episode of "XZ meets a VA", right here on DBZSC.com! See you then... Cookie: Go visit Byron's website RIGHT NOW. Fusion Dynamite. (link- http://www.fusion-xl.com/fusiondynamite) ------------------------------------ Now I'm REALLY kicking myself for not having explored more of the site when I had a chance. It was pretty interesting and I took for granted how long Byron would keep it open after being exposed. The website closed shortly after dbzsc.com's exposure of his identity but you can still find part of it in the webarchives. The most interesting thing is probably his reaction to "Step into tha Grand Tour." Now I don't know if any of you were around or paying attention back then but the day that rap song came out was about the equivalent of fan reactions to the first "uncut" VHS tapes of DBZ Season 3. Pretty much every site flamed the crap out of them and were extremely angered about it- even some DBZ sites well-known for supporting Funimation and their dub of DBZ. This site though, despite criticizing the song and Funimation's cover art was fairly light in criticism compared to the reactions of most DBZ sites to DBGT's rap music. Well, I guess Byron doesn't really like to bite the hand that feeds him. Then again it is pretty funny to see a guy who once complained that DBZ fans repeatedly accused him of giving out blowjobs to anonymous strangers criticize Funimation. On a different note this next person isn't exactly anonymous but I did find their journal thanks to it being linked directly on Chris Sabat's online journal- here it is. It belongs to Andrew Chandler. His guestbook also had some posts from Chris Sabat, Rick Lebo (designer for some of the artwork on the DBZ movies) and although I can't quite recall I think maybe Kyle Hebert as well. Amusingly, he also once did a fake haiku contest for up to 20 people to win a weeklong sleepover at Chris Sabat's house. Funny that, me and Leia entered but we never won, heh heh. Ah. Well, that shows Christopher Robin Sabat and Byron Watson posting anonymously online. And as a bonus I've got DBZ VA Andrew Chandler's old journal. Woohoo, I'm on a roll! Now then, who's next... hmm.... Okay, it goes like this. Remember when Chris Psaros once wrote, " "The counts are staggering, and we're trying to convince them to cut back on a few, in case Chris gets in trouble. One such Charge is 'Exposure of Pornographic Materials to Minors; the threat of; potential', which they're hiring a federal Lawyer to persue." This was of course written by Rich (sorry to blow your cover, but your writing has some unique and unmistakable quirks), and I'm not sure how much of it to believe or be concerned about." With emphasis on, "but your writing has some unique and unmistakable quirks" basically it means that his writing style gave him away. And I can give away someone away too. Remember that editorial I wrote in which I quoted a certain someone from Funimation who'd e-mailed me? (add) "....there are certain elements to the way a business has to run that you may not understand. It's not as black as white as you may think it is. FUNimation spends a lot of money to assure that that the mass audience is happy with Dragon Ball Z in America and that it meets the standards set by the television stations. It is their right and privilege to do it the way they want and there are perfectly good reasons for the way they have done it. Obviously, it works. I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't have an opinion on the matter or that FUNimation doesn't care about your opinion, but there is a large factor that you are leaving out of your perfect equation and that is -- the fact that the majority of the United States loves DBZ the way they've seen it and that you, my friends, no matter how passionate you may be, are a minority." Interesting. What's more interesting is that I did happen to run across a writing "style" somewhere very similar to this one. http://www.templeotrunks.com/misc/enlight/ed73.html "However, to the main point of this editorial. Everyone's constant whining. And that's what it is. WHINING. All these webmasters, whom I have great respect for their dedication and hard work, just sometimes know how to really ruin something with all their whining. If the DBZ online community could just leave the dub be, or make polite criticism and try to help, which some of you are indeed doing, then everyone would be much happier, I assure you. But instead, all we ever get is a bunch of people sitting at their computer whining about different voice actors, music, etc. I agree with them on most if not all of their points, but however, when the same argument is preached again and again, it is no longer an argument. It is WHINING. I for one, would be much happier if people could just learn to leave things be, maybe there are those that agree with me. If you don't, that's fine, I am not Akira Toriyama, just a man speaking his mind. I understand the depth of love and reverence some people must have for this show, I have it myself. But I think that looking at the dub, and criticizing everything it does, is just childish. FUNimation's target audience is children 4-12 years of age. Fine by me, I have my fansubs, and if I want to watch the dub, I will. I personally, view the dub as just another interpretation of my favorite story of all time. However, some people aren't happy with this, they feel the need to complain and complain, which is again, your choice. But you know what: TOO BAD. FUNimation's not going to change anything because you want them too. Except this fact now: we, my friends, are the minority." .... "the fact that the majority of the United States loves DBZ the way they've seen it and that you, my friends, no matter how passionate you may be, are a minority." "FUNimation's not going to change anything because you want them too. Except this fact now: we, my friends, are the minority." Wow. He also wrote two other editorials and while he has claimed to be a 16-18 year old boy in high school let me assure you this- I know who this person is and he is NOT a 16-18 year old boy in high school. He was lying about his identity and trying to present himself as a regular hardcore fan against Funimation while also trying to discourage people from attacking Funimation. And his comments about planetnamek.com and VegettoEX, who at one point he attacks for flaming Funimation then later praises when EX became far less anti-Funimation, are pretty hilarious. After all, this is the internet- you can be anyone you claim to be. A model, a writer, black, white, male, female, gang member, rich person, fat, ugly, smart, dumb, etc., etc. All people know about your identity is what you present, and if someone wants to hide something or present themselves as someone else then they can do that, particularly if they are clever enough. It makes sense he wrote this way. By praising Psaros to a high degree he's showing "I'm one of you" and probably helping to alleviate any suspicion he might be afraid of in the first place. Moreso than that, he's casting himself as arguing not from the point of a dubbie (which, oh boy, he definitely is....) but a sub fan, thus immunizing himself from dub vs. sub arguments. He's then framing his argument in a higher position from the grounds of sub fan vs. sub fans, and explaining why he feels they should stop being anti-Funimation and should simply accept them. If he simply fussed about about how the dub is actually better than the sub, then he'd cast his position as arguing in a manner he could be put down with dub vs. sub arguments which would be a much easier and more vulnerable grounds to attack on. Besides, his original point isn't to make it dub vs. sub but to explain why sub fans should just be content and not complain. Better to avoid the messy usual dub vs. sub arguments and just go straight to why sub fans should simply offer just acceptance and so from the viewpoint of "one of them". I have to admit though, he's a good writer and pretty tricky, especially making the point of writing a very otaku-ish editorial about strengths while using certain spellings ("Gokuo") as well as praising Chris Psaros. (note- didn't this guy flame the crap out of VegettoEX, who used to frequently use that spelling and helped popularize it more than anyone else? Before turn around and praise him after EX befriended several people at Funimation?) I can even remember reading that editorial years ago as a complete dubbie and completely agreeing with that whole gym class story he told. Still though, it can be argued both ways. However, considering that he makes the exact same arguments as the person who e-mailed me did, considering that he went from attacking VegettoEX to later praising him later after EX became buddies with Funimation and let up considerably on attacking the dub, considering his defense of webmasters/sites that sided with Funimation, considering his contempt for so many dub-bashers, considering the fact that he called Psaros's complaints about Ginyu Assault "pretty petty" (and that attacks on Psaros are pretty rare), considering his heavily boasting about that overexaggeratedly pro-Funimation editorial by that "Prince Vegeta" and singling it out for praise, (really, wtf? Picking that out of everything else to brag about? I even wrote about it once saying that it was so overexaggerated that it probably was written by someone from Funimation and I was convinced that it was.) and considering that he wrote almost verbatim the exact same thing I was e-mailed by a certain someone, I tend to lean in the direction that it's that same someone. Now for one more. Again we come back to good old Jon Allen. Man, was this guy tight with Funimation. Remember when Sabat gave him a free weeklong vacation and tour at La Casa Funimation? Anyway, on planetnamek long ago he did an update. It basically to the extent of.... "Ahem. Hey everybody! Kyle Hebert is going to be appearing at a comic book store function in Dallas, Texas called (something something something) along with a few other Funimation employees! And if you see Aaron Davidson (tall cool guy with long blonde hair) be sure to get an ADawg chant going!" I kind of rolled my eyes when I read this- only Jon Allen would be familiar with the petnames of the people who work at Funimation. This reaction though did make the incident stick out in my mind though it remained long forgotten. However, something happened that brought back the memory... I was over at DBC: WDC reading some editorials there. (heck, I submitted one myself there once) One of them caught my eye though. "Why we don't deserve real DBZ," by ADawg. I did a doubletake. "ADawg? ADawg? The 'master of the funky chicken', the tall, blonde cool guy that's homies with Jon Allen? Hey, that's the exact same name..." So, I did a websearch on the name. http://www.templeotrunks.com/misc/enlight/ed92.html "And sometime between then and now, he invited me into a chat where I got to meet ADawg (recently announced presence of Majin Seishin at MG.com), S4 (MajinGohan.com)" MG.com doesn't really lead to anywhere or anything (or get any DBZ referenecs in search engines) so apparently it refers to MajinGohan.com. Hmm. So Aaron "ADawg" Davidson worked at MajinGohan.com. Which is interesting since you might remember that I've referenced S4's interview with pojo.com quite a few times because of a certain subject he touched. In it he writes, "Q: Had FUNi finally proven us wrong in showing us that they can produce a good dub? A: Unfortunitly, no. DragonBall Z is probably the most poorly done dub on the planet. I will be satisfied when I see basically all the original Japanese elements in the show. Sorrta like how Gundam Wing is. On a side note my close friend keeps in contact with Gen Fugunaga and I found what he told me quite disturbing. Apparently Mr. high and mighty when asked why can't the show be done more like Gundam Wing he got this response: "Gundam Wing is only 49 episodes long. DragonBall Z is 291 episodes long. It would cost too much to have decent music for the show." Now while th what my friend told me he IS going to give me the e-mails and I will post them on my site ASAP. But I am sure you guys get what he is saying. " Hmm... A friend that keeps in touch with old Gen that got his email before it became public and to whom Gen was willing to correspond with. Gee, I wonder who this friend would happen to be to know Funimation's head well enough to exchange e-mails with him and have his e-mail address. Considering that Aaron Davidson's nickname is "ADawg" and that of all the possible combination of names these two happened to pick the exact same nickname, and that the second person submitted an editorial to WDC and was friends with someone who had a "friend" that was able to get correspondences from Funimation's head guy, I tend to lean in the direction that it might be more than just coincidence. Still though, while I'd say I'm very confident about "XHyperTrunks00" I'd say I'd have more doubt about the two ADawgs. As for his attacking Funimation, well, don't forget someone from Funimation did refer to the treatment of DBGT as rape. Ah. Well, that gives me DBZ director Chris Sabat, the brother of DBZ producer Barry Watson' Byron Watson, and one "XHyperTrunks00" to claim as people posting anonymously online. (although I was initially going to I won't claim "ADawg" since after looking at him some more I do see some room for doubt there) And I've got a different story to tell. Long ago there was a certain Dbz message board I used to post on before starting up DBZUncensored II. I posted there before as a strong dub fan but, after seeing fansubs and converting I then had a new goal in mind- trying to convert everybody there to the original version. That being said I'd always post stuff talking about changes in the dub, the dub vs. original and linking to sites discussing the differences between the two versions. Yet, there was one person who always fought with me. No matter what I said he refused to admit the original was better in any way and was heavily insistent that the dub was far superior. He was not just some young dubbie who knew nothing about the original version and he did make lots of arguments in favor of his position. Yet, his position was quite strong. He insisted that the only problems the dub really had were with the first three seasons but after that the music, voices and scripts were perfect. He also was insistent that the Funimation VA's were completley superior to the Ocean ones and had no admitted dislike for any of the voices, except for Freeza. His views in defense of the music were interesting. He referred to it as "outdated, cheesy, kung-fu music" that just wouldn't fit in modern American times if used. Interestingly enough that is a defense to the effect of which at least people from Funimation have used before, at the very least Kyle Hebert and Sonny Strait. He was also highly contemptous of the original score. ("I think the dub music is better than the so-called 'original score.'") In fact, one time a person was talking about a scene near the end of Season 7 they had watched and really enjoyed. I asked the person if it was the dub or sub and when they responded the dub, I encouraged them to view the sub because it was treated far better. He made a complaint about me doing this then the dvd-owner camed back and said, "Wow, that really was better in Japanese." Basically I converted someone to the sub just by having them view one episode in Japanese and comparing it to it's dub presentation. Much later when complaining about me he specifically complained about that particular incident as if I'd done something terribly wrong. No matter how much I argued with him though, there was no winning. I linked to my editorial, "Gen Fukunaga's Uncle- a real American Anime Pioneer", a lengthy report on how Funimation really got started, to attack Funimation and explain why they weren't worthy of getting DBZ. He simply responded calmly to the effect of, "I have no problems with that information at all whatsoever. To me Funimation is a great company so I am just grateful that it exists. The fact of how it started up doesn't bother me at all, any way it did is perfectly fine with me because I like the company and what it's done so anything responsible for it's creation is fine with me." I'd try eternally to argue with him but it never worked. I'd point out mistranslations, I'd point out false plot holes created, he wouldn't budge at all. He'd just get angry, defend the dub and then attack me, once bringing a group of friends to help him. And he almost completely refused to say anything bad about anyone working at Funimation. When people would point out the dub contradicting itself directly at times he'd just say it didn't matter and would usually be among the first to defend it. My thought on this at the time was that this reflected a large number (or at least a certain section) of dub Dbz fans who were 100% devoted to Funimation and incapable of ever changing or wanting to. Basically lost souls. Later... after movie 8 came out, I made a post about it. I talked about how the voice-acting was really good, the script was highly accurate and how the music wasn't that bad but could have been a lot better. Then, he showed up. He praised and thanked me very, very, heavily for, as he put it, having finally said something nice about the dub. He seemed to be personally overjoyed at my reaction and clapped for me. I then looked back on all of our interactions and thought them over carefully. If he was just an average DBZ fan, why would he be so stubbornly in favor of the dub to such an overzealous degree? And why would he be so overwhelmingly in favor and completely supportive of Funimation so much to the point that he feels the need to thank me after praising Movie 8? It was at that time I finally thought.... "What the... does he work for Funimation or something?" I looked up some information on him. His location? Dallas, Texas. Yup Dallas, Texas. Out of all the tens of thousands of cities he could be living in, he just happened to be in one right near Funimation's headquarters where many people who work at Funimation live. So does it seem so odd I'd be suspicious of him and his behavior? I looked up more information on him... and noted his user name, a character he was pretty strongly in favor of. I also noted his favorite VA that he'd frequently bring up and praise. He was a big fansub afficionado and watcher of anime, moreso than any of his other friends. Later he heavily defended Funimation when a group of people were complaining about the cursing censorship in DBZ Movie 8's dub, then when Movie 9 came out he said, "This movie has at least curse word in so people should just be happy... but just you wait! I know someone's going to say it needed more!" He also went beserk when I brought up the 61.5% of the dub mistranslations complaining heavily that it was all Toei'e fault while refusing to blame Funimation at all. I thought he was that someone for a while but much later it turned out he wasn't. Perhaps he's just a friend or family member of someone there? Maybe, maybe not, anything is possible. But you can see how dealing with someone from Dallas, Texas of all places like that for over a year with that kind of behavior would make one overly suspicious. What do I think? Well sometimes coincidences are more than coincidences but that's an awful lot of coincidences for one person. Besides if somebody is going to post anonymously they're not going to be open about it. It's not like Byron Watson posted a disclaimer on his DBZ website that, "Hey, I'm Byron Watson and my brother is the Producer of this show everybody! Just wanted to let you guys all know, now enjoy my anime website!" Should Byron have? Well it was dishonest not to but I think Byron just wanted to be able to enjoy posting/working anonymously without the stigma of his real self and his company reflecting everything he did. And that's just how the net is- you can claim to be anyone on here. On one message board I used to post on there was a "girl" who was very bitchy. After she made up her mind to hate me, she kept attacking me and got some of her friends to help "her." Eventually I just left. Later the same person on the same site (pretty big one) made a comment on a different board about it being easier to pretend to be a girl online than it is in real life. Heh heh, and that topic got deleted pretty fast soon. After that, "she" was outted as an overweight transvestite and all her friends (including many guys who, as one person from the board once said to me when relating the incident, "basically sucked up to her because they thought she was a cute girl") disavowed her. Heh heh heh. That should give you an idea of identities on the net. People project the image of themselves they want to project, whatever it might be- and they work to maintain it. There. Now perhaps after reading all the above you can see why I'd be suspicious? I don't know, it could be Byron Watson running his site then shutting it down after his friends reveal it's him, or Chris Sabat running around as eatmoreokra and also bragging to people he had an alias he used on planetnamek.com's message boards. Or "XHyperTrunks00" having the exact same writing style as the person who e-mailed me along with his same beliefs and opinions while praising some ridiculously overexaggerated pro-Funimation editorial as the best one out there. Or me having spent one and a half years arguing with someone on a DBZ board from Dallas, Texas who was obsessively 100% defensive of Funimation. Or it could be the fact that Stu Levy the head of Mixx (now Tokyo Pop) posted as several people on his boards to hype up popularity there before being found out. Or Temple of Trunks having up to at least 5 editorials written anonymously as propaganda pieces by people from Funimation. (and who knows just how much more people from Funimation may have chose to respond at various sites in such a way?) But based on the above examples I do believe this- that some people from all of the manga/anime companies as well as some of their closest friends and family do post online on various boards, and often times do so anonymously so that they can argue with/talk with about what's happening in private while also trying to be regular anime fans. Think about it- who posts online on anime/manga forums? People who like anime and manga. And many of the people who work at various companies are VERY big fans of anime/manga. While there are some people like Kyle Hebert and Mike Pollock who are very open and amiable about posting completely openly in many different places, to the point it seems unlikely that they'd bother having any anonymous identities online in the anime community, that does not describe everyone. In other words, they seem to post very freely and openly. While there are others with "celebrity accounts" that doesn't meant they don't post elsewhere anonymously, kind of like how Sabat was "eatmoreokra" but also is said to have had an open account on planetnamek.com. Kind of like how Chris Sabat argued with a group of anti-Funimation fans as eatmoreokra and tried to bring up some of his Blue Gedner directing work on ign.com in a Bloodrayne topic or when Byron Watson anonymously ran Fusion Dynamite (telling only a few close friends and not making it public information on the site, then closing down after those friends told the world), sometimes people want to post anonymously or just be another regular fan instead of having any celebrityhood or connections to their company follow them around wherever they go. Besides, it'd be ridiculous to imagine that nobody from any of those companies would ever check out or deal anonymously with these boards- they have to or are just too curious not to because it involves their job and it relates to them and their work. Take Lance Armstrong- in a fairly recent interview he made a big point of complaining about what fans in biking boards/chats were saying about him. His daughter had made a loud comment about wanting to get some donuts at some sporting event. Then, rumors flew all over the net and in chat rooms that Lance was just sitting around shoving donuts in his face and not doing any training. Obviously the rumors weren't true, considering that he kept pwning France despite what was being said. (or, if they are true, then he is an amazing enough athlete to be able succeed even if he does just sit around and eat donuts!) Yet, Lance Armstrong followed the pulse of fans talking about him and wasn't very happy about it. Other celebrities have mentioned similar things in interviews. Like Wesley Snipes- while talking about Blade 2 and how much he considered his performance to have improved, good-naturedly said to the extent, "Yeah, don't think I didn't follow up on all those e-mails you Blade comics fans sent me!" And Kevin Smith in a Rolling Stone article felt the need to insult/complain about some people on the internet who'd complained about favorable comments he made about any early showing of the most recent Star Wars, as those remarks on the internet to this celebrity offended him. And that's it- it's human nature to be curious what others think or say about someone or the work which they're involved with. The same would apply to people's jobs, and others that work there. Consider that article in Wired about movie studios going out of their way to give favors/gifts (like, talk to them give them inside exclusives, and go as far to spend $10,000's flying them around the world and giving them hotel/airfare) to the "fanboy sites" of various Marvel franchises. Like Spiderman, Fantastic Four, etc. They know how critical fan support and word of mouth can be for titles so they really want to try to convince those who run these sites that the movie is good and worth supporting and they pay extremely close attention to complaints and anything else people might say. That being said, I'm sure that when Viewtiful Joe got licensed that the people at Geneon made a point of exploring and reading what everybody had to say about it and I'm sure that they probably explored the sites fansubbing it to see who'd keep subbing it and who wouldn't keep subbing it. And I'm also sure that the employees of Media Blasters did the exact same when "Ah! My Goddess" was licensed. Just as how Funimation's employees followed up on all the Full Metal Alchemist fansubs, and were probably pissed that 3 groups continued subbing the show. (though, not pissed enough to avoid keeping up with the fansubs as many people associated with the dubbing of the show have admitted to doing) And I'd imagine that people from companies probably like to (and have to) keep up with what people are saying about certain dvd's, voice actors/voices, releases, practices, conventions, people in the industry, licenses, etc. and try to stay very informed and keep up on this kind of stuff so they know exactly what's happening to the point that they post on some of these boards incognito. Also, consider this editorial. (WDC, American Saiyajin, archives) It's interesting that this guy seems to have such a strong, intimate knowledge about Funimation's script problems/mistranslations from Toei... because that was definitely NOT common knowledge back then at all. Even people like Psaros (who didn't even spot it in his coverage of that Barry Watson interview) and sites like Planet Namek and DaizEX never really touched on that issue in depth so it seems odd that he'd know something like that because "someone told him." Hell, I researched a hell of a lot of old stuff for a while to dig up information (like the infamous, "The replacing of the music, was a Funimation decision" coment) and I know it would have taken this guy at least a few months if he'd found all that out on his own and done the research himself in order to find it out. Then again he simply knew someone who knew and told him and much of his other information in that editorial is dead on too, though the angle he writes it from is pretty extremist extremistly apologetic/in favor of Funimation, to the point they're given little to no blame/complaint for mistranslating 61.5% of the series. Plus it's on what was just about the most anti-antiFunimation (in many respects) site out there someone could pick to put an editorial on. And long ago I also met another person like this, who I once mentioned as thinking was someone because of a similar username to the person. He hung around the same Dbz community for years and had an interesting pattern. He'd flip out whenever people attacked the dub, or said Dbz's popularity was dying, and do stuff like link to pictures of new dvd's and start up topics about them saying, "Yes, yes, this dvd art looks just fine." He'd also say stuff like claiming that he found the Japanese version better and forced his friends to watch it briefly to label himself as a hardcore, before complaining strongly that "all of his friends hate it" and that's why DBZ dubbed the way it is is superior. He also made the exact same argument that Mr. Cocanougher emailed me (well, not to my GS777 account, a different one) and that a VA emailed me to my main account- that DBGT had it's music replaced because DBZ did better with replaced music than DB did with the original music. Cocanougher was a bit more arrogant though, stating it simply as fact while the VA was just trying to explain that that's how Funimation probably thought and why they may have changed GT's music instead of keeping the original soundtrack. Anyway I tried bringing up a debate about Dbz fansubs to catch his reaction- the guy flipped out. He kept insisting how evil and immoral they were, and I kept throwing back Funimation's treatment of the series/fans. Eventually I threw in two minor remarks that kind of hinted to him that for some reason this kind of conversation was making him uncomfortable. What'd he do? Left the argument to me, made one single post months later then pretty much abandoned the area he'd been around for years. Now that's some pretty powerful pwnage right there. Could I be wrong about them? Maybe. Then again, could I be right about them? Maybe too but I am a little more careful these days. I will say though that I don't think that Chris Sabat, Byron Watson, that "XXHyperTrunks00 and maybe Aaron "ADawg" Davidson are the only people to ever post anonymously online. Nor do I think Byron Watson is the only person from within the industry to anonymously run an anime fansite either. The industry has a hell of lot of people in it, many who are anime fans and I find it pretty damn hard to believe that all of them follow some kind of bushido code about never posting online anonymously or interacting with fans in such a fan either. I do believe that of the many thousands of people who have worked and do work in the anime industry that many of them choose to post on anime/manga-related boards and interact with fans anonymously anonymously. I do not believe that Chris Sabat, Byron Watson, "XXHyperTrunks00", Stu Levy, possibly Aaron "ADawg" Davidson are the only ones who have done so nor that they are highly unusual or lone exceptions. I also believe that many of the close family members and friends of various people working in the anime industry post anonymously online in the same manner as well. While some people are open about their affilitations not everyone is 100% of the time. When you find several people from Funimation posting online anonymously, and then you look up a guy who's argued in favor of them nonstop for years who happens to be in Dallas, Texas, that does tend to make you a bit suspicous and overconfident that you think that perhaps some others who ape the behavior of all those people in one way or another might be like them. Let it be said that there are fanatics and extremists on all sides of the spectrum and that not everybody who walks around with their tongue shoved completely deep up a company's asshole and defends them to an overly obsessive and obnoxious degree necessarily has anything to do with that company. And let it also be said that Chris Sabat just couldn't resist the temptation of replying as "eatmoreokra" to the "FUNIMATION SUCKS!" topic at "The Dragons Inner Circle" of Yahoo groups. Besides consider this- many major anime sites ban discussions about censorship of certain animes that makes it through on tv. In other words, people can talk about the disco guns they use on the late night show Gundam Seed (basically, they take real guns and add lasers/laser effects to them- thus them being mockingly dubbed as "disco guns" by some fans) and how they got censored. However, if a 1/4 second panty shot from, to give a completely random example that I'm not even sure exists or not, (as opposed an actual example I don't want to mention that's been shown uncensored several times, since I don't want it to get censored) episode 12 of Zatch Bell occured, it wouldn't be considered allowable to talk about. Why? Because in the past censors have gone back and censored stuff because it was openly talked about, which is why some sites forbid discussions about that kind of material. In other words, the guys out there responsible for bringing back the 70's to Gundam Seed and adding bikini staps to girls already covered up in towels on Tenchi Muyo keep up with these sites and the various messages on their boards to find out what people are saying about the censorship there. So obviously the company censors or those close to them at the very least lurk the hell out of these boards. You really think that's all every one of them does instead of perhaps trying to post at them actively while digging/asking around for information for certain bits and thoughts about the censorship? So all of that being said hopefully you can see why I'd find it perfectly believable that individuals from different companies do post online anonymously and will agree with me that they most likely probably do. And hopefully you can see why I might get overconfident to the point of being too sure of myself and make a mistake. If this was your first and only impression of me, well, I can understand how first impressions stick and you might have a negative view of me because of it. But for fuck's sake I've done a hell of a lot of work in the past 2+ years and there's a lot more to me then just one damn incident. Go check out the features I have in "Miscellaneous." Then after that, go read my two editorials I did on the infamous Christopher Neel Bligh and on some infighting that took place at Funimation in regards to who would direct DBGT and how it effected the treatment of the series or go read my review of DBZ Movie 7. Perhaps then you can reconsider your opinion of me instead of tying me to one fucking thing. To anyone who used to follow my work but decided to leave after the incident, well, yeah I guess can see where you're coming from. However, hopefully you can see where I'm coming from too and and show some sympathy. Besides it'd be a shame to stop coming here. I've got some big plans for DBZ Uncensored 2 and I plan on kicking a lot of ass here. You really don't want to miss my upcoming interview with someone who's met the head of Anime Labs and has an answer to the long-asked cursing question, or miss out on a fun story regarding Funimation's attempts at licensing Saint Seiya. Then again maybe you do, but you can just stick with the weakass sites and miss out on the good stuff if that's how you feel. As for putting quotation marks around the word sources and using that to attack me to suggest that when I do mention information from someone but don't openly attribute the source that I'm lying about the information and the existence of said source? Please. Allow me to reveal one right here and now-Jon Allen. You probably know we don't get along too much nowadays (if not then you obviously haven't read much of my stuff) but we used to be friends briefly. Anyway... Do you remember how I've bragged about the fact that I knew that Gen Fukunaga and Barry Watson didn't give two shits about the production of DBZ? Jon Allen told me. Remember how I've mentioned that Gen Fukunaga wasn't the only founder of Funimation and that the Cocanougher family basically financed the creation of the company, thus them having more power in certain areas then even the ol' F man? Jon told me. Remember how I boasted about Chris Sabat having watched One Piece fansubbed and how he read the mangas obsessively? And wanted to voice the role of Zoro, when Funimation briefly had the license? Well, it's all thanks to Jon! Do you remember my quote from someone at Funimation that, "If you thought the raping of Dragon Ball Z was bad, wait until you see what they do to Dragon Ball GT"? Although I did accidentally misquote it without changing the meaning (the original quote was, "It's going to make the raping of Z look like a picnic.") guess where I got it from? (builds an idol to Jon Allen, prays in the general direction of it) Remember how I kept alluding to someone calling up Jon Allen to complain about a line in a particular DBZ episode? Well I'd planned on saving this for the actual episode comparison itself but here goes. The line was Piccolo saying about the Dragon Radar, "I left it in my other pair of pants" and the person was Chris Sabat calling up Jon Allen to ask him if it was referenced in the original episode. (note- not too obviously, that wasn't the original line. And unsurprisingly, it still wasn't altered even after this revelation to the director/va.) Although he is not where I found it from, guess who admitted to it and didn't deny it when I e-mailed him about it? Yup, Jon Allen! (sacrifices a calf to that altar) Ah man... give me some butter because I'm on a roll! Although I deleted the news comment shortly after I put it up because he got a bit too many flames I later heard about, remember how I mentioned during the "DBZ Movie 8 music saga" that in personal conversations Mike McFarland actually preferred prouncing Kamehameha as "Kamayamaya" and turned down a bribe to pronounce it correctly? Guess where I found it from... come on... come on...! Oh, you are wrong! It's not Sylvester Stallone's younger brother and it's not Abrahaman Lincoln's descendant- it's Jon Allen! (upgrades shrine into a temple.) Oh, remember how I mentioned that everybody in the anime industry laughed at Funimation and looked down on them? Though that was long ago before they'd done many of the more recent things they've done to improve (the time period of this comment dating back to late 2002) guess where I made this discovery? To afford this person some anonymity I'll let you fill in the blanks. -o- A-l-n And remember some stuff I mentioned about..... ah. No, I won't say it. I think that's more than enough. But man did that feel good! Mmm mmm! And like with Jon Allen, that is my point. People from Funimation that have e-mailed me in response to stuff I've written, people that I've talked to who've spoken to people from Funimation before, or say, a former Dbzoa staffer talking to a female employee from Funimation in early 2003 and asking about the beef between them and ADV or just plain research, yeah I do have a lot of fucking sources that I've used. Like from this article... Do you know who the Mr. "?" is? Why, it's Mr. Cocanougher- Mr. Daniel Cocanougher. A young man fortunate enough to have his e-mail responded to by Mr. Cocanougher dutifully reported it to me. I did correct a lot of his (not Cocanougher's) spellings though, guess Cocanougher decided to play it safe by asking for feedback from the younger target audience. You may remember my response I put forth the day DBGT's infamous rap song came out where I encouraged everyone to e-mail Funimation's head exec's and thus gave out their e-mail addresses from which many people chose to contact them which is what resulted in this interesting correspondence. Why don't I necessarily automatically "out" all of them to prove what I say the moment I mention a piece of information? Because that is the point of anonymous sources. If people tell you something anonymously they can't necessarily have their names be revealed. Many newspapers, journals and magazines and others in the news world use sources, like during the election when people from the Bush and Kerry camps made off the record remarks. If I revealed everybody who spoked to that didn't want to be revealed, nobody would talk to me. Besides that if someone's nice enough to talk to someone they, in turn, should expect to have their privacy respected as well. Or in other cases, if revealed they might not say anything else. Kind of like my One Piece article where I didn't mention where Funimation's moderator reported the information to some people. Why? Well it has to do with the saying about the old well drying up. I could have immediately said EGX was this guy I spoke to long ago instead of declaring an anonymous source in an earlier editorial where I talk about Funimation and the licensing of the movies and thus proved it right then and there but if I had done that then Funimation either wouldn't have told him anymore information, or EGX would have been very careful and wouldn't have made the public remarks about OP/Detective Conan-Case Closed that he did. By not doing so I was able to make another trip to the well so to speak, and the water I got back from that trip was pretty damn good. And by not immediately saying that Daniel Cocanougher's e-mails were given to me by someone he responded to, I later got someone who Gen Fukunaga e-mailed to give me that e-mail. (note- there's really nothing of interest in that one besides him being super-happy and apologetic about skipping the first 16 episodes of GT while slightly-kinda/sorta blaming Cartoon Network for it) After all, if the executives knew some of their direct e-mails to fans were being given to yours truly then they might avoid that practice which is why I'd rather claim an anonymous than put a stop to that practice. And sure, I could say who it was that worked on DBZ Movie 8 that responded to me and told me that they really did not care for the music there at all (even they specifically asked me not to mention their name) or how I know that the first Funimation DVD Ginyu Assault almost contained dubtitles, or how I know about Sean Schemmel idiotically singing in the GT rap theme song but it's my choice not to. For you see, if you subbed in someone else's name for Jon Allen (or just used his...) you can see how that the person would get in trouble and hopefully sympathize with me not wanting to get that person trouble. So it's up to the reader to decide to trust the newswriter claiming certain sources. And with the many things above hopefully I've made my point pretty clear by now. And if you still want to be contend it, then here's hoping Mike McFarland throws a Kamayamaya Wave at you. You can try to bribe him $100 not to shoot you with it but he'll probably turn down your money! :P Still, if someone wants to use this one mistake as the sole basis for attacking me and the main pillar upon which to judge me then consider this. Animenewsnetwork.com, the "Internet's Most Trusted Anime News Source" had a pretty big screwup themselves- this. What happened? Somebody set them up the bomb? Err... not quite. More like they set themselves up the bomb or Gen gave it to them and they just accepted it. Basically they were completely wrong about the licensing rights of One Piece. They knew there was plenty of evidence Funimation had licensed it and that the story they were given was pretty suspicious, yet they ran with it and presented it as the truth. Basically that they lied to the internet anime community and their fans and betrayed their self-motto for the sake of sucking up to and sparing Funimation the embarassment of having had Toei yank away the rights to One Piece away from them. Why did they do that? Well if you think about it long enough you can probably guess why. Despite this though, none of the "big people" in the Anime Community who knew or should of known dared say that this was wrong or were willing to stand up to Funimation. But there was one person who wasn't the least bit afraid of pissing off Funimation who stood up and laughed in their face the whole time while revealing what really happened to One Piece- me. When it comes to the licensing rights of One Piece there's only one internet's most trusted anime news source with the real exclusive and you're looking at him. Now let me ask you this- I haven't seen anyone attack Anime News Network too much for lying on behalf of Funimation. So why should Anime News Network get a complete free pass on that, and not have that issue be reflected or considered to reflect on them at all, and why should I be judged solely on one issue and not be given the slightest bit of credit for finding out what happened to One Piece? That's called a double standard and it's really not fair at all, either scenario for either side. Anime News Network's feature on "Inside the Mixx" shouldn't be considered any more good or bad because they lied about OP's licensing rights for Funimation's sake. Nor should my review of Funimation Craptacular job on DBZ Movie 7 be considered any more good or bad because of my mistake. The mistake should be considered if you want to judge me, just as Anime News Network's lies for Funimation should be too, and if you want to judge one of us then you have to judge both of us unless you're operating under unfair bias, but neither incident should be used to completely impugn either of us. Of course you could try to make a huge deal about me once saying Funimation had Gantz and act as if it was a huge major prediction and not just a brief 2 sentence thought based on the fact Funimation had announced and pulled a Gantz website then later had the domain name when ADV told fansubbers to pull it because it was a series coming to America, but then again that's really scraping the bottom of the barrel for something to judge me on. And speaking of simple predictions didn't I also once warn people about the possibility that 4Kids would license One Piece? I think I also once told people to download the living hell out of Full Metal Alchemist too about a month or two before it got licensed, since I'd heard Funimation already had it and would announce it soon. Besides I was a bit overexcited and in a hurry when I wrote that Gantz thing, that having been caused by speaking to someone from the most powerful and elite Anime News Network. [oops, did I say that out loud?] They also mentioned... well, maybe that's another story for another day, though me saying that may be more dependent on your reading speed or just how many editorials you chose to knock through in a day. As for why I'd reveal them as a source for that, well, let's just say that the information I was given on Naruto turned out to be a bit lacking and that I REALLY wish I'd known much earlier about KevinTRod's 4Kids-stock owning Wall Street stock broker uncle who's told him much stuff that's come true earlier, and that I don't think ANN were that uninformed. To give you the short version of things, 4Kids did try to get Naruto but failed miserably because the Japanese looked at their failure with One Piece, and compared it with Viz's success with Inuyasha. After all you're only as good as your latest hit, making Pokemon/YGO disregarded and One Piece the main scale on which to judge them. As for Funimation saying/acting like they were trying to get Naruto all along, hell what did you expect them even if they weren't trying to get it, 'nah, we ain't trying to get it?' They did the exact same thing when Toei yanked One Piece away from them and they pretended that they were still trying to license it when they sure as hell knew they weren't going to. I now doubt that they competed directly with 4Kids to get Naruto or if they did try to get it, they may have tried after 4Kids found out it was obvious that their failure with One Piece would prevent them from being an acceptable choice in the eyes of the Japanese companies they were dealing with. (And, touching on a similar different note... the licensing rights of Detective Conan. I've heard it be mentioned that Toei didn't have the rights to the show, and thus didn't give them to Funimation. Now you may remember me quoting Funimation's moderator EvilGamerX stating that they did get the rights to Detective Conan for having had One Piece taken away from them. However, he (A) was the way I was able to "independently verify" this claim by reading his remarks. The person I spoke to directly about (B) it and have quoted a few times told me the exact same story about One Piece and Detective Conan, and why Toei yanked One Piece away from Funimation. He also said Bruce Faulconer was coming back to the redub. This guy was a friend of someone from Funi. (as for Bruce Faulconer doing the redub, a different person (C) who's a friend of Jon Allen talked to Chris Sabat on the phone over a year ago. They were talking about the redub then Sabat blurted out that Bruce Faulconer was going to be hired again. Sabat then freaked out and begged him not to tell anyone... but of course, then he told me :P This being the 2nd independently verified claim, which was a reference to two things- remarks on Faulconer and remarks on what the deal was with OP and Detective Conan. As for why Faulconer's not in the redub like I had previously said, I guess Funimation wanted to use him at one point [remember that quote from Funimation at the convention in that article?] then later decided against using him, though it's not like the new guy is any better.) Basically, they both said the exact same thing completely independent of each other. Bottom line? Funimation had One Piece, then Toei yanked it away from them. But in exchange for having done so, Toei, being the biggest and richest anime company on the planet, then did something with their massive influence and muscle in Japan to help Funimation get Detective Conan. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why 4Kids has One Piece and Funimation is stuck with Detective Conan.) Unfortunately sometimes people insist on only taking the negative and applying it to someone. You know that person in high school you disliked more than anyone else there? Imagine saying as many nice things as you can about that person. And imagine that person saying as many nice things as they can about you. And imagine either of you having a neutral view of the other. Take Harry Potter- in the new book Malfoy stomps on Potter's nose and breaks it. Later in the cafeteria Malfoy is howling with laughter while recounting the incident as all his friends laugh with him. Why? Because Malfoy hates Potter and despises him. If you've read the books you know Potter's a nice guy and he's done lots of good stuff- but Malfoy doesn't care about any of that. Because he despises Potter he holds him and everything good he's done in contempt and is capable only of looking at him as negatively as possible in a bad fashion while only having bad things to say about him to others. No matter what good Potter has done or will do Malfoy will always hate him and will never allow himself to say or think anything nice about anything Potter does and will continue to hold him in contempt. When you've garnered the animosity of an individual, regardless of the original reason- whether by insulting them or a friend of theirs or having done something to offend them or whatever- the only feelings that person will have towards you will be negative. And their only desire towards that you won't be to treat one as a fellow human being but merely to wish to engage in deconstruction of that individual while casting judgement on them while viewing them only by information and actions which reflects negatively on them while treating such as all-important in determining one's character. Then using that view as an excuse to discount and dismiss the entire opinions of while even going so far as to accusingly cast doubt on everything one has said, all while blatantly ignoring anything which reflects positively on another person or simply dismissing it. It's a cheap but very effective tactic- just ask Dan Rather. In more extreme cases someone may even lie about someone else or even their personal interactions with them. I'm not perfect and I am human and I do make some mistakes. However I'm certainly not completely imperfect either or incapable of anything good and I have done a lot of good stuff. For one just look at all the content I've submitted to YGO Uncensored for one, there's some great stuff there I stand by completely that I don't feel reflects negatively on me in anyway. But I know those whose dislike me of extends to a strong personal level will always believe the latter and try to imagine only the absolute worst about me while creating a completely negative magnifying glass under which everything is incapable of being good in any way. And as for you people at Funimation... I'm sure you've had your share of laughs over that incident. Particularly after all the things I've revealed about you guys that you'd prefer to keep hidden, in addition to heavily insulting and criticizing your past actions along with converting lots of people away from supporting your dub and towards disliking it and you. Well I've got a new flash for you today- I'm afraid the mileage on your old joke's just died. Why? Well, the next time you try to create the emotion of laughter for yourselves thinking about that incident then think about this- I discovered that DBZ director Chris Sabat had used the online moniker "eatmoreokra." Tracing it, I looked over the topic "FUNIMATION SUCKS!" topic at The Dragons Inner Circle at Yahoo groups, and there I found Sabat responding as his alter identity, informing the people there that the fansub translations were "lying" and were wrong and that "some of the original translations" he's seen showed him that it was impossible to accurately translate Japanese into English... Once you do that, I'm sure the emotion of laughter you're trying to create for yourselves will be replaced with an entirely different emotion. And to the real Gen Fukunaga- well, that incident involving me exposing your head DBZ director online basically shows that, despite being Japanese and having spent a year in Japan, you were so blisteringly ignorant and stupid that you seriously thought that those Toei Engrish scripts () were actually somehow "accurate" and didn't realize it really was possible to translate stuff accurately until you finally hired Steven J. Simmons. (who once described the translations your head director thought were accurate as "rather haggard") Or, you did know the translations were inaccurate yet lied to your employees and told them otherwise either just to avoid having to deal with the issue or because you simply though it didn't matter much. I'm really honestly not too sure which of the two is worse. Think about that for a while. As you do, I'll be busy having a smile on my face. And as for Chris Sabat... oh my God.... MAN, WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT!!!! HOW ON EARTH COULD HE MAKE A MISTAKE THAT STUPID FOR THE DBZ DUB, DURRR!!! Truly this is the most important thing he's ever done that should be considered the most when trying to think about him! Man, this just goes to show how completely and utterly stupid he is! This destroys any credibility for any piece of work, voice he does, script he writes or dub he directs or anything he says or does, man! They all must be terrible because of this one thing and everything he ever says or does should be completely disregarded and it should completely impossible for him to ever redeem himself and be impossible for anything he's ever done or ever will do to be so much as remotely good and he should be viewed only completely negatively!! Wait... he did do a good job on Dbz Movie 8's script.... and he did a good job directing Blue Gender... he's directed a few YYH episodes nicely, his Armstrong voice isn't so bad and... maybe it's not right to adopt such an extreme position against him since it's not like everything he does is so bad and... ARRRRGH! CONFLICTING INFORMATION! HOW CAN HE BE COMPLETELY FLAWED AND YET STILL DO SOME GOOD THINGS, AGGGGGHHHHH.....! Ah, that's better. Like I meant to say, his movie 8 script was terrible and inaccurate and that dub just flatout sucked. His voices are all terrible. His episodes/other things he's directed are all terrible and he's completely incompetent and everything he ever does now, before and forevermore will all be terrible because it's been tainted by that one incident, no arguing with that! And given that he was one of the main DBZ directors there, many others there too (like Cindy, the Cocanoughers, Sean Schemmel and Barry Watson) who most likely probably thought the exact same damned stupid thing should be considered in exactly the same light! So tell me Funimation- do you guys think that Chris Sabat should be judged solely and primarily only on accepting Toei's Engrish scripts as fact and fansubs as lies while he directed a significant chunk of Dragon Ball Z and have all his other work like Blue Gender be disregarded and cast negatively because of it? And that you should eliminate all respect you have for him whatsoever while doing the exact same to many of your other employees who thought just like he did? Or do you think he should be judged individually on the different things he's done over time without having any one thing completely anchor him forever, hmm? I would be most curious, and amused, to know what you think. And I trust you won't make hypocrites of yourselves. Well, there's a lot info I've just compiled here that's taken a long while to find out and I'm pretty damn proud I was able to find out that much stuff on my own. I may not have a working relationship with multiple companies in the industry that I trade favors with nor do I suckup to certain companies or people within them to have them hand me information on a silver platter but I've still been able to find out a very large amount of interesting information all just by my lonesome in spite of that. And I plan on finding out a lot more things in the future too. I know I'll always have some people who'll have it in for me. Then again I'll always have those who are my friends too and I'll always be grateful to them. But whatever happens I'll always stand up for what I believe in and I'll proudly defend myself against anyone who wants to try to bring me down or cast only a entirely negative image of me ignoring anything good I've done. I'm free now and I'm sure as hell through putting up with anymore bullshit from anyone. And as to any critics who want to try and use one single incident as the sole means of judging me and basing me upon (especially if you're going to insist on giving Anime News Network a complete freepass on lying for Funimation without attacking them in the least for it) without making much reference of anything else about me, particularly anything positive like me completely finding out what DBZ Movie 8 would be like long before it got released- too bad. Now that I have revealed some people from Funimation posting anonymously online I'm afraid that old insult just won't quite work since it's kind of like a double-edged sword. If you're going to use me being wrong about someone's identity to attack me and that use as the sole basis for judging me, then me being right about several people's identities reinforces me multiple times and makes me several times just as smart and good as that did bad. And if you want to still try to keep judging me on that you also have to blatantly ignore that that never would have even happened in the first place if I hadn't already discovered a couple of people from Funimation posting anonymously online while getting the chance to observe their behaviors and mannerisms which is the only thing that got me suspicious in the first place. Funny how being the only person to discover a few instances of people from an anime company responding anonymously online does that to you. Toodles and as for me, well, I'm off to go look at Chris Sabat's online journal and laugh at Andrew Chandler's jokes about the things that you can do with combs. |
